Video SEO On-Page 2015

The OnVideo level (equal to the On-Page factors in SEO), which includes the proper labelling of video titles, descriptions, filenames, and transcriptions that need to be implemented after conducting the classic keyword research.

Title

The title of your video is very simple, it should be short and snappy and it must con- tain your main keyword. So for example, if your target keyword is “Kerry Katona Weight Loss” here are some great video titles:

NEW: Kerry Katona Weight Loss Kerry Katona Weight Loss [LEAKED]
 Kerry Katona Weight Loss [2012]
Kerry Katona Weight Loss [EXCLUSIVE REPORT]
Kerry Katona Weight Loss [10th October 2012]
Kerry Katona Weight Loss - Real or Fake?
As you can see I have added words which will grab the viewer’s attention and make them more likely to click on our video. Putting words in [] square brackets or nor- mal brackets gives the title more prominence and makes it stand out above the rest.
Don’t make your title too long, but make sure it makes sense as well. Just using “Ker- ry Katona” for your title would be bad as it’s very nondescript and people will have no idea what the video is specifically about.

Tags

When writing your tags you should closely follow the guidelines I laid out when writ- ing the tags for your channel.

Keep it short, don’t stuff keywords into your tags, Google hates keyword stuffing.
Your tags should be all the things that are relevant to your main keyword and nothing more. I usually use a maximum of 6 tags in my tests more than 6 can work against you. And of course, make sure your main keyword is in there. A good set of tags for my keyword would be:

Baumgartner “Felix Baumgartner” “Red Bull Stratos” Red Bull Skydive

Some people say only use your main keyword for your tags and nothing else, so for example just “Baumgartner”. This does work, however in my tests I have found using a small selection (4 - 6) of highly relevant tags works much better and yields more traffic and better rankings.

Remember anything inside quotation marks counts as a single tag to Google.

Description

Your description should be long. Nobody enjoys writing long articles, but I promise
you the results will be worth it! Your description should be a minimum of 500 words but the more the better, I’ve used descriptions of over 1,000 words in the past with fantastic results. Google loves long, well written descriptions and this is a big factor in ranking your video highly in the SERPs.

The most important thing about your description is it needs to be relevant and hu- man readable. DO NOT just stuff it full of keywords and nonsense, this will only work against you. Equally it needs to be completely unique, don’t copy and paste an article from elsewhere. Google loves unique content and the duplicate content rules apply to YouTube descriptions just as much as they do to normal websites.

It is a good idea to outsource this part, you can get a good, unique article done for very cheap at http://fiverr.com/ or a freelancing site such as http://www.freelancer. com/. Just make sure whomever you choose to write the article, they can do it in a couple of hours or less. You are on a time limit when working with hot trends, the faster you can get the video online after the news breaks the better (also, getting up early helps!).

So what should your description be about? Just write generally about the news or subject of your hot trend. The best way to explain this is with an example, so I will give you a short example of the first paragraph of my description:

Felix Baumgartner is an Austrian skydiver and BASE jumper, known as a daredevil by many. He has been chosen by Red Bull to take part in a legendary event named “Red Bull Stratos”, where he will jump from a helium balloon at an incredible 120,000 ft, that’s in space! The ascent to space will take approximately two and a half hours but the drop will only take 10 minutes.

...so you get the idea, but remember, it should be a minimum of 500 words. If you
are having problems thinking what to write the best thing to do is find a news website
that has reported on the story and reword their article, or better yet, read through
it a couple of times then write it out from memory in your own words. If you do this make sure it is at least 90% unique it should not be obvious which source you used for the information. It also must be completely human readable and your spelling and grammar needs to be spot on.

Also make sure you include your main keyword a few times throughout the descrip- tion, but don’t overdo it and don’t force it, your keyword should appear naturally with- in your text. A good guideline is to include your main keyword once every ~80 words. But don’t do something like this:

The skydive went great. Baumgartner. Red Bull were very pleased.

That’s completely unnatural keyword stuffing. Instead write:

The skydive went great for Felix Baumgartner. Red Bull were very pleased.

Once you have your article to use as a description you need to add your affiliate/ product/CPA link to it, put this at the very start. Don’t put it at the end after your 500 word description because nobody will see it and click it.
I advise buying an .info domain with your main keyword in the URL for example:

http://felix-baumgartner-news.info http://baumgartner-2012.info http://baumgartner-red-bull-skydive.info
The reason for this is if Google sees an URL in your description with the keyword in it Google will see it as a more relevant video and you will notice the results in the SERPs. This is not a major factor in ranking high, but in my tests it has definitely helped.

Once you have your .info domain you need to redirect it to your chosen affiliate/CPA offer. I won’t go through how to do that here as there are plenty of free guides al- ready on the internet.

If you would rather not spend a dollar on an info domain a great alternative is going to https://bitly.com/ and shortening your affiliate link. After you shorten it you can customise your short URL to include your keyword so you end up with a free URL with your keyword in it, for example:

http://bitly.com/felix-baumgartner

Then include it at the start of your description with a few attention grabbing words relating to your offer, for example:

Want to be able to skydive like Felix Baumgartner? Get fit fast and become a super- human athelite at: http://felix-baumgartner-news.info

....The rest of your long description.....

Bonus Tip: chose the “News & Politics” category for your video, for some reason this helps with SEO slightly.
